Bed sheets size: the guide to the best fit.

Double Chevron Left Back to News

Since there are so many different sizes and depths with mattresses, it’s becoming more and more difficult to find the right bed sheets size on the market today.

Unfortunately, if you get it wrong, especially for your fitted sheets, you could be waging a constant war between sheets that pull off at the corners or sheets that have constant wrinkles and folds because they are too large for your bed.

Either way, it can diminish the many benefits of a high-quality mattress like Polysleep’s Zephyr Mattress because you’re constantly aggravated about your sheets.

This guide will help you get the best fit for your mattress, so you never need to worry about going to war with your sheets at night.

Bed Sheets Size Chart: Fitted Sheet and Flat Sheet

When you’re shopping for bedding for your mattress, you can enjoy a little wiggle room in size with flat sheets, comforters, quilts, and blankets. But fitted sheets are something you must get right

While you obviously don’t want to buy king sized bed sheets for a twin bed, you can allow for manufacturing discrepancies to some degree when buying flat sheets.

With fitted sheets, though, you need to make sure you’re getting a sheet that matches the length, width, and depth of your mattress.

Standard dimensions exist for each mattress type. Most of them that are standard sizes (king, queen, full, twin, twin XL, and Cal king) are the same width and length.

Discrepancies occur when it comes to the depth and that is where the fitted sheet battle often begins and ends.

These are the standard width and length dimensions for mattresses today.

Mattress Size Mattress Dimensions
Twin 39” x 75”
Twin XL 39” x 80”
Full 54” x 75”
Queen 60” x 80”
King 76” x 80”
Cal King 72” x 84”

There are specialty sizes as well and you’ll generally need to order specialty sheets to fit these non-standard mattress sizes.

The depth of the mattress is where things get tricky especially when you add a mattress topper.

Sheet pocket size: take a look at the depth of your mattress

The term “pocket size” refers to the depth of the mattress.

Because there are so many different mattress depths, the “one size fits all” philosophy for standard bedding doesn’t apply to fitted sheets for mattresses with deeper pockets.

Here’s what you need to understand about depth and whether you need standard, deep, or extra deep pocket sheets for your mattress.

  • Standard mattress depths are between seven and 12 inches.
  • Deep mattress depths are between 13 and 17 inches.
  • Extra deep mattress depths are between 18 and 25 inches.

You’ll need to look for sheets that are the appropriate depth for your mattress. It will usually be indicated on the package if the sheets are made for non-standard depths.

Bed sheets size for your Polysleep mattresses

When you buy a Polysleep Mattress, you need to look for sheets that are designed for standard size mattresses, or deep mattresses if you plan to also use a mattress topper.

These are the dimensions you’ll need for fitted and flat sheets with your Polysleep mattress.

Choosing the right size of sheets requires you to know the dimensions of your mattress and the sheets. Then you will be able choose the one that matches the best.

Keep in mind the depth of your mattress when making this choice and choose the appropriate pocket size as well for your sheets.

Some sheets may shrink over time. You can help prevent this by washing them in cold water and line drying your sheets.

In most cases, you do not have to worry as much about blankets, duvets, comforters, etc.

If you purchase the sheets listed as a corresponding size for your mattress, you should do well. You may want to double-check the measurements to be sure.

Mattress Size Blanket Comforter
Twin 66’’ x 90’’ 68’’ x 86’’
Twin XL 66’’ x 90’’ 68’’ x 86’’
Full 80’’ x 90’’ 78’’ x 86’’ to 86’’ x 86’’
Queen 90’’ x 90’’ 86’’ x 86’’ to 86’’ x 94’’
King 108” by 90-100” 100” x 92”
Cal King 108’’ x 90’’ 108’’ x 90’’

Your duvet should be roughly the same size as your comforter. Duvet can shrink when washed so even if it is the same size as your comforter, it will fit snugly around it.
