What side of the bed do you sleep on? And what does your side of bed say about you? It turns out that there might be more science to this question than you might think.
I sleep on the left side of the bed and my partner sleeps on the right side. I’m generally a positive person, a writer by profession, and consider myself to be an artist. So, does my side of bed matter? Premier Inn, the UK's largest hotel brand, studied 3,000 sleepers. They found some interesting correlation between the side of the bed you sleep on and your personality.
Do you sleep on the left side or the right side? Take a minute to think of three qualities you have before reading on and learning about what your side of bed says about you.
The left side of the bed
People who sleep on the left side of the bed are associated with more right brain qualities. The study found that left-side sleepers were more likely to be artistic, creative, and even wake up happier.
People who snooze on the left side of the bed feel they have a really positive outlook on life. Left-side sleepers are generally more optimistic and more peaceful. They are also associated with more left-leaning politics and tend to enjoy beer instead of wine.
The right side of the bed
While people who sleep on the right side are more likely to wake up grumpy and feeling negative, it is not all bad news on the right side. People who sleep on the right side of the bed typically make more money than their left-sided sleeping partners.
They also tend to be more business-focused and are even more likely to own and run a company. Right-side sleepers are associated with liking wine over beer. They also tend to lean towards the right in their political views.
A perfect math
Sleeping on the left side of the bed is linked with harmony, creativity, and calm. Sleeping on the right side of the bed is linked with being grounded, prepared, and self-assured. If you share a bed with someone, no matter what side you sleep on, you are prepared to balance each other out perfectly.
Is there a ‘correct’ side?
If both sides of the bed correspond to different personalities, can you truly wake up on the wrong side of the bed? No, not exactly.
As we have learned, the different sides of the bed have different qualities, both unique in their own way. However, if you regularly sleep on one side of the bed, but then spend the night sleeping on the other, you are more likely to wake up grumpy. Sleeping badly is an easy way to wake up grumpy. No matter what side of the bed you sleep on, the best way to wake up “on the right side of the bed” is to ensure a good night’s sleep.

So does your side of the bed accurately describe you? For me, it is spot on. I couldn’t believe the science! The good news is that it’s just a short study and all that matters is that you are sleeping well. And the most important part of your bed is the quality mattress (like a memory foam mattress, for example?).
